Overview

Pangot is located about 15 kilometers from Nainital, which is a popular hill station. The drive to here passes through the forested area of Cheena Peak Range via Snow View Point and Kilbury, which are birding spots. The main attraction of Pangot are its birds; around 200 bird species have been recorded in this area. One can see a variety of Himalayan species Himalayan griffon, blue-winged minla, spotted & slaty-backed forktail, rufous-bellied woodpecker, rufous-bellied niltava, khalij pheasant, variety of thrushes etc. Almost 150 bird species have been recorded at Pangot and the surrounding areas.

 

Sattal : The lake has an altitude of 1370 metres. Sattal is unique for its biodiversity and ecological amplitude. It has 150 species of resident and migratory birds, 20 species of mammals, over 525 species of butterflies and over 11,000 species of moths, beetles, bugs and other insects. A combine tour of Pangot-Sattal is appropriate for best birding experience.

Itinerary

Day 01: Delhi - Sattal

Morning after breakfast drive to Sattal. The distance is 300 kms & will take approx 07 hrs. On arrival check-in to the resort. Evening free for leisure. Overnight stay at the resort. Sattal or “Seven lakes“ is a unified group of seven freshwater lakes situated in the Lower Himalayan Range in Nainital district of Uttarakhand. During the British era the area had a tea plantation. The lakes sit at an altitude of 1370 meters below lush orchards in the Mehragaon valley.

Day 02: Sattal (Full day Photography)

Full day photography near around Sattal. This day you will have opportunities to photograph babblers, tits, bulbuls, warblers, minivets, woodpeckers, pigeons, myna and the colorful barbets. Along with these birds you can find around 230 varieties of other birds & some which one can find only in Sattal region. Sattal is an area blessed with much ecological prosperity, and its avian population, which is its crowning glory, will ensure that you get a lasting taste of it. Evening return back to the resort for dinner & overnight stay.

Day 03: Sattal (Full day Photography)

Another full day for photography at Sattal. This day at Sattal will surprise you with the unity of its amazing assortment. Set amongst dense forests of oak and pine trees, Sattal is one of the few untouched and uncontaminated freshwater biomes in India. These lakes are a paradise for variety of migratory birds & now you have the chance to capture all these in your camera before the day ends. Dinner & Overnight stay at the resort.

Day 04: Sattal - Pangot

Morning at leisure, free time for relaxation OR boating at Sattal lake. After lunch start you drive to Pangot, another paradise of Birds & nature. Pangot is a small village which lies in the north western range of Nainital. This drive will take 02 hrs, Enroute you will drive through Mehragaon valley having lush green orchards, plenty of natural beauty & many beautiful locations which you can save in your cameras. Arrive Pangot & check-in to the lodge. Evening free for leisure. Dinner & Overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 05: Pangot (Full day Photography)

Full day photography at Naina Peak, Kilbury & Timla Pani. Visit to villages Baggar and Gughu Khan. These walks can be very rewarding for capturing crested serpent-eagle, mountain hawk-eagle, Woodpeckers such as brown-fronted, stripe-breasted, rufous-bellied etc. The entire drive is through the forested area of Naina Peak Range via Snow View Point and Kilbury, the main habitats for excellent bird & nature photography. The forests of Pangot and surrounding areas are dominated by thick Oak, Pine and Rhododendron. The streams passing by the area makes it even more attractive place. Late evening return back to the lodge for dinner & overnight stay.

Day 06: Pangot (Full day Photography)

Another full day for photography at Pangot & nearby surroundings. At Pangot there are many walking trails through the surrounding jungle. You can choose your own trail. You can go through the forest or along the main road, which rarely sees vehicles pass by. The oak, pine, bamboo, cedar, rhododendron and other conifers make the walk delightfully beautiful and refreshing. The undergrowth is as fascinating with varieties of fern and moss breaking through the rich soil. The forest gets thicker as you walk further. The trickle of fresh water streams enriches the habitat. You can often spy wildlife around the streams. A host of birdlife inhabits this world. An absolute dream for a nature lover, this walk is a must. Late evening return back to the lodge for dinner & overnight stay.

Day 07: Pangot – Delhi

After breakfast leave for Delhi

    The above trek cost includes transport to and from base camp.
  • Safety equipment
    First aid, medical kit, oxygen cylinders, stretchers, Walkie-Talkie etc. will be available at campsite.
  • Accommodation
    Stay is included from Day 1 to Last Day. Tents/Homestays/lodges will be provided. Tripple sharing Accomodation and seprate accomodation for girls/ladies will be povided
  • Meals
    All meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast at Last day are included. Veg food will be provided during the trek.
  • Permits/ Forest fees
    UTT will arrange trekking permits and forest passes.
  • Experienced Trek Leader & Team
    Qualified trek leaders haing in basic / advanced mountaineering courses certificates/ degrees will assiston trek.Other staff member includes qualified cooks, helpers and porters.
  • Food during transit to and from the base camp
    Food would not be provided during transit and trekkers have to bear the cost at their own.
  • Mule and Porter charges
    Generally we expect trekkers to carry their bag-pack and luggage themselves. For those who wish to use Mule/Porter need to pay Rs 350 per day for same.
