Overview

The Auden’s Col, one of the high altitude mountain passes in the Garhwal Himalayas that links the Rudragaira valley and Bhilangana valley, is located at a height of 5,490 metres. It  to a height of 5,390 m, forming a bridge between the north-west ridge of Gangotri-III and Jogin-I. A dream for all enthusiastic trekkers, the Auden’s Col Trek is also one of the hardest treks in the Garhwal Himalayan area and has thus received the least amount of regular trekker exploration. It will lead you past some perilous moraines, precarious narrow cliffs and stony, snaky and twitchy paves. Hindu pilgrimage sites abound in Auden’s Col Trek, which also has a shrine and breathtaking vistas. The road winds past various settlements as well as dense alpine woods, meadows filled with a variety of floral species, and and cuts through numerous villages. Despite the trail’s difficulty, it rewards travellers with a magnificent vista of towering high peaks including the Rudragaira, Jogin, Bhagirathi, and Kedar Dome. Not simply a trek, but an adventure that will inspire and renew you! The trek takes you up in the Garhwal Himalayas in the vast Gangotri glacier region, departing from the high mountain village of Gangotri, which may be one of the greatest trailheads in the nation. The mighty Bhagirathi flows loud and proud, from its glacial source at the foot of Chaukhamba, down through vast meadows and dense deodar forests. Auden’s Col is by no means a monotonous landscape.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Train from Delhi to Haridwar:details

Overnight Train Journey. Board the overnight train NDLS Dehradun A/C Express which leaves New Delhi at 11:55 PM and arrive in Haridwar by early morning (next day); at around 04: 00 AM.

Day 2 : Trek from Khatling Glacier Camp-I to Khatling Glacier Camp-II (4,210 m)

Heart of the Himalayas, Incredible Views . Your trek today will be thrilling as it will take you far within the Himalayas. As you approach Khatling Glacier Camp-II, take in the breathtaking vistas of the towering mountains, picturesque glaciers, and intricate ice formations. Overnight stay in camps.

Day 3: Trek from Khatling Glacier to Khatling Cave/Tambakund (3,400 m)

Bhilangana River, Glaciers . After the day’s breakfast, start descending through the glacial moraines and make it. The Bhilangana River also contributes to this breath-taking vista of the ice cliffs, which rise hundreds of feet above the ground and are just breathtaking. Arrive at Khatling Cave or Tambakund, retire for the day in camps.

Day 4 : Buffer/Contingency Day

Buffer Day This day will serve as a buffer day if in case, bad weather hits the itinerary. Overnight camping in Khatling Cave.

Day 5 : Trek from Khatling Cave to Kharsoli (2,880 m)

Streamside Camping You will be walking through the luxuriant oak, birch, deodar, fir, and rhododendron woods on this day. When you go to Kharsoli, you'll set up camp next to a gushing stream.

Day 6 : Trek from Kharsoli to Gangi (2,650 m)

Bhilangana River, Scenic Thickets . After a long day of trekking at a higher altitude, you might expect a little warmth as you descend. Continue your stroll through the deep woodlands after waking up in the morning. On the way, expect a steep climb after passing the few houses beside the Bhilangana River. In Gangi, we'll spend the night at a camp or guesthouse.

Day 7: Trek from Gangi to Ghuttu (1,550 m)

Pine Forests, Reeh Village, and the End of Auden's Col Trek. Today will be a long day and you will be descending through pine forests and make your way through the Reeh Village. The trek ends at the road- head 4 kilometres from Ghuttu. Overnight stay will be at a guesthouse in Ghuttu.

Day 8 : Drive form Ghuttu – Haridwar, Train from Haridwar – Delhi

Tour Ends Here. The last day of this excursion should begin with a leisurely drive to Haridwar, from whence you may catch the Shatabdi Express to arrive in Delhi by 10:45 PM.

Day 9 : Drive from Haridwar to Uttarkashi (1,110 m) (7 hours)

Arrival in Haridwar, Leisure Day. After reaching Haridwar, board a vehicle and drive straight to Uttarkashi which is a 7-hour journey; en route, have breakfast . After arriving at Uttarkashi, check-in into a hotel and spent overnight.

Day 10: Drive from Uttarkashi to Gangotri (3,050 m)

Bhairon Ghati, Ganga Aarti, Harsil On this day, you will go through Harsil, the location of the renowned ‘Wilson Apple’ then through Bhairon Ghati, the Bhairav Ganga river's course, where a steel girder bridge looks out over a stunning deep valley. After 4-5 hours of driving, arrive in Gangotri and settle down in a guesthouse. Visit the ghats in the evening to see the magnificent ‘aarti’ ceremony performed on the banks of the sacred Ganges.

Day 11 : Acclimatisation Day in Gangotri

Excursion to Kedartal Lake, Bhoj Kharak Take a walk or, to be more accurate, an acclimatisation walk to the Kedartal Lake this morning after breakfast. The path is steep the entire way to the little campground at Bhoj Kharak via birch trees (3,780 m) Post this walk, return to the campsite and spend overnight.

Day 12 : Trek from Gangotri to Nalla Camp (3,760 m)

Bhagirathi River, Rudragaira Nalla, Jogin & Kedartal Peaks. The walking trail starts from the true left of the valley and ascends to the Nala Camp. You will initially begin walking to the left of the Bhagirathi River and continue for perhaps 30 minutes before turning to face the Rudragaira Nalla. The slow ascent through woods of birch and pine provides vistas of the towering Himalayan peaks like Jogin and Kedartal. Overnight stay will be in camps.

Day 13 : Trek from Nalla Camp to Gangotri-I Base Camp (4,500 m)

River Crossing, Rugaira Base Camp, Gangotri-I Base Camp. The day begins with a steep ascent to a sizable meadow, then involves a river crossing and another ascent that is steep to reach the Rudragaira Base Camp. After there, it continues through a glacier moraine to Gangotri-I Base Camp, where you'll spend the night .

Day 14 : A day to acclimatize

Relaxation Day, Stroll around the Campsite. This is the day to unwind and become used to the weather. A bit of sidewalk around the camp will be the main schedule for the day.

Day 15 : Trek from Gangotri-I Base Camp to Auden’s Col Base Camp (4,800 m )

Gangotri & Jogin Range The day's trek is fairly difficult, therefore one has to be really energised. The terrain will get more challenging as you move closer to the head of the valley, where the Gangotri Range (G1, G2, and G3) and the Jogin Group (J1, J2) are located. When you get at Auden's Col, spend the night at the camp at the base of the Col .

Day 16 : Trek from Auden’s Col to Khatling Glacier Camp-I (5,110 m)

4-5 Hours Trek, the Jaonli Kedarnath, Jogin & Gangotri Peaks. An early start is a must today as you will be trekking through glaciers. In addition to providing breathtaking views of the Khatling Glacier and the Jaonli Kedarnath, Jogin, and Gangotri peaks, the climb gets steeper as you go, so be prepared for a little bit of a challenging hike. Arriving at Khatling Glacier camp, relax and retire for the night.

    All meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast at Last day are included. Veg food will be provided during the trek.

    UTT will arrange trekking permits and forest passes.
  • Experienced Trek Leader & Team
    Qualified trek leaders haing in basic / advanced mountaineering courses certificates/ degrees will assist trek.Other staff member includes qualified cooks, helpers and porters.
  • Food during transit to and from the base camp
    Food would not be provided during transit and trekkers have to bear the cost at their own.
  • Mule and Porter charges
    Generally we expect trekkers to carry their bag-pack and luggage themselves. For those who wish to use Mule/Porter need to pay Rs 350 per day for same.
